Helping you choose a laminator

Use this handy guide to help you make the right choice of laminator for your specific needs. Asking yourself these questions will help to ensure that the machine you purchase best suits your requirements. Make sure you take into consideration all the aspects shown.

Alternatively of course, you can call one of our advisers on 0844 8009928 for assistance.

How would you best describe your daily usage?

Light Duty - Personal Usage, up to 5 times a month, a Home Office or SOHO (small office home office) machine should be adequate for your needs.

Medium Duty - up to 5 times a week, an Office laminator would be best suited to your needs.

Heavy Duty - up to 30 uses per day, a Heavy-Duty machine is strongly recommended for this number of uses.

Intensive - 30+ uses per day, constant daily usage, a Professional machine is essential in these circumstances

What is the maximum pouch thickness you are likely to use?

Check carefully the maximum thickness of pouch that your machine can cope with, as this will limit the maximum thickness you can use in future. Typically, most documents will get a good level of protection with a pouch of up to 125 microns per side. Commercial, industrial or professional applications will require pouches of a greater thickness for maximum protection and an appropriate machine will be needed to take these pouches.

What is the maximum size of the documents you are going to laminate?

An ID (or A6) laminator is just that - a machine that will not take a pouch any bigger than A6. The same applies to our A4, A3 and A2 machines. If in any doubt that you may occasionally need to laminate documents bigger than the standard size you typically laminate, then go for a machine that will enable you to handle this. As a guide, most people need to laminate A4 paper (normal size copier paper) almost all the time but also need to process A3 occasionally. This means that the trend in sales is towards A3 machines, which enables people to deal with these two key sizes.

Of course, if your requirements are even more flexible, such as wide format or long lengths then you should look at one of the roll laminators or commercial laminators in our Professional section.

Do you need to laminate photos?

All the A4 and A3 laminators we offer can handle photos.
